Thank you for visiting the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care’s website.

Following the publication of the independent review in May 2022, the Government has published its strategy and consultation on children’s social care, Stable Homes, Built on Love. The strategy and consultation was published on 2nd February 2023.  It responds to the recommendations made by the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care and also to the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel report into the tragic murders of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson; and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Review into children’s social care placements.

This website will be closed down by 10th March 2023. An archived version will be saved with the National Archives and will be available in due course.

Care Experienced Parents – Focus Group

23 July, 2021, 2:00pm

In the first few months of the review, we have heard from several of care experienced young people and adults about their experiences during pregnancy and into parenthood. Although some were able to get support, many reflected on the stigma of being care experienced and how this influenced the way they were treated by professionals across the system.

We have set-up this focus group because we want to hear more about the challenges care experienced parents face, and to start a conversation about what type of support should be provided by the system during pregnancy and into parenthood.

To ensure all participants can contribute to the discussion, we have limited the numbers of places in the focus group to 30. However, we expect that this focus group will run regularly in the coming months to help us think about wider support that is needed for care experienced parents.
